wrapped in fog -

There is a gentleness to this day, a day of fog.  We spent part of this three day weekend at Jeff and Jan's, feasting on summer bounty.  Though I spent much of my childhood in Iowa, I have now picked my first ears of corn, two of them, with small, sweet, yummy kernels.  We cherished each bite.

Yesterday, I read Last Chance to See by Douglas Adams and Mark Carwardine.  They visit animals of which there are just a few, and tragic as it is, the incredible writing of Douglas Adams allows some levity and light.   People work hard to save each creature.   Somehow the book uplifts as it brings us to the Komodo dragon, the Kakapo, the blind river dolphins of China, the Silverback Gorilla and other marvelous manifestations of energy and form.  It is a wonderful treatise on evolution and survival and it is certainly not clear who might be more evolved.

I am also reading Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese.  I found it a bit dense to enter, but once in, it is riveting.

I love the immersion of these three day weekends, especially, when we are wrapped in the introspection of fog.

Let yourself be silently drawn
by the strange pull of what you really love.
It will not lead you astray.
