Thanksgiving Eve!

I love this day, the excitement in the air, the gatherings, or not.  No matter what,  there is a pause, a giving one's self to thanks.

I spoke to one woman this week who is looking forward to buying an expensive tomato and enjoying a tomato sandwich alone.  She is still recovering from the exhilaration of her daughter's wedding.

My son Chris has two turkeys brining, one from the recipe of Alton Brown and one from Chez Panisse.  He and my other son Jeff are in charge and it will be quite a gathering and feast.  I get to bake, so today is set aside for baking pies, cheesecake and rolls.

I feel so full already, and I'm sure I'll be ready to eat.

I read the news and it is staggering, and for one day, may there be peace and thanks, a pause.

Perhaps Americans can think about their arrogance.  The turkey is a humble bird, and it seems a time for us to eat humble pie.
