zoos -

Here is Jon Carroll on the zoo issue.  I only differ with him on the taunting of the tiger.  My understanding is that the boy who was killed did not taunt, though the others did.   No matter what,  it is sad, and yet,  perhaps it brings us to ask whether zoos are cruel and unusual punishment for animals and should become a thing of the past.   We can do that first, and then, we can look at our prison system and bring some compassion, kindness and common sense to that too.
