Balancing joy and sorrow -

While waiting for Bella at the vet, I read the following article in Newsweek on "Happiness.".  I think it is important to recognize the value of sorrow and grieving in our lives.  Reading that parents want their teenagers put on antidepressants when said teenagers are sad at a romantic breakup, I wonder where art will come from.  Art requires personal and inner exploration, joy, sorrow, anger, despair.  I remember reading of a small town where a great many people had lost their jobs.  The doctor had run out of antidepressants.  My thought was that, of course, people are depressed when they don't have a job.  You don't medicate them.  They need to feel their sorrow, and then feel their motivation to do something about the problem.  I don't get it, but then I don't own pharmaceutical stock.
