My mind is always busy while I take my shower. I was remembering the day I realized there was nothing to stop me, that what I had and what I could become were all up to me. It was a liberating moment and allowed me to realize I had created exactly what works for me.
What Barack Obama gives us is that example. No more can people excuse what they don't achieve, by saying I am black or white or mixed, or my parents didn't give me this or that, or, on and on, the way people sometimes do. The excuse stops here, at home, with what we are, with what we want and reach for and achieve. Obama has examined himself internally and externally, and retained a humility as he asks us to unite in true compassion and willingness to help ourselves and others.
The gift of his presidency is huge. What it represents liberates each one of us. Oh, I can do that if that is what I want. I can. I do. I am trying not to get too excited too soon, but I am starting to give myself permission to feel the tide coming in, the widening of the light of the moon.
