Reflection -

I believe it is important to reflect periodically on one's life.  That is why we have seasons.  Even little Zach seems to understand the metaphor of leaves falling to take a rest, and then, returning in the spring.

Why then is Bush unable to reflect on mistakes he may have made as president?  Who doesn't look back and go "Ah, might have handled that a little better, and now, I learn."   Who doesn't apologize?   Well, we see what arrogance does.

And then there is the auto CEO Alan Mulally who when asked by Congress if he would consider cutting his salary in light of a debacle he is responsible for, replied, "I think I'm OK where I am."   $22 million a year and he sees no place to cut.   Perhaps that is why the car companies are in the state they are in.  Lack of creative thought.   Imagine living on $10 million a year perhaps, or $1 million.   In the words of Carl Sagan, "Imagine, if you will."

Thomas Merton wrote that "The only way to change the world is to change the thoughts and desires of those who live in it."

We've had entitlement programs all right and they've gone to the high end.  They have been protected in a way that is unfathomable.  It is time for Barack Obama to lead the way out of the tunnel and into the light.
