The rain has come -

Rain pours down. Our three year drought is coming to an end.  I love the sound of rain, and yesterday was excitingly punctuated with thunder and lightning.  It was like an orchestra playing.

I finished reading The Alienist by Caleb Carr last night.   It is set in the late 19th century in NYC and deals with corruption and the mutilation and murder of young boys.  The subject matter is tough, though it is a fascinating look at how psychological analysis was developed as a way to locate those who commit violent crimes.  Who would brutally murder children?  Someone who was abused themselves.

I am obviously disappointed with the election results in MA.  I wonder though if the problem is that each "side" is expecting a knight to arrive on a white horse.  Women used to be raised on the fairy tale that a man would come and rescue them and they would live "happily ever after." Is this the scenario we are now demanding of our government, so we are set up for a continual round of disappointment?

I continue to read how teens are delighted with their "smart phones," and how they are in continual interaction.  Meanwhile it seems some of the more mature are pulling away, overwhelmed perhaps with ads and the latest scam and span.  I suppose it is for each of us to feel our way to what balances us each day.    There is a place to connect outside of ourselves and a place to connect within.  I continue to feel society forces us to push very hard this time of year.  It is winter and dark and cold.  It is a hibernation time of year.

Happy enjoying of this day, wherever you are!
