I'm heading out to Pt. Reyes, to Inverness, for a few days. Bella hopped in my suitcase when it came out. When I closed it, she stayed atop it. Now, she just threw up on it. Nothing like making me feel badly about leaving her.
Tiger is asleep here on the desk next to the computer. He hasn't put it together or figures he can handle life on his own for a few days. Of course, his "dad" will be here, so food will arrive promptly and he will have a lap when desired.
In Shelf Life in The Nation, John Palattella writes:
"When Amazon was developing its electronic reader, it hired a design firm to brand the gadget. The designers recommended the word "kindle" as a name for two reasons: its etymology is rooted in the old Norse word for "candle" (kyndill), and it has a literary lineage dating back to the Enlightenment. "The instruction we find in books is like fire," wrote Voltaire. "We fetch it from our neighbors, kindle it at home, communicate it to others and it becomes the property of all."
No wonder the name seemed familiar from the beginning. A clever word, kindle! Who could be against it? We changed with the discovery of how to use, control, and carry fire, the invention of the printing press, and now, yes, we have Kindle.
May your day be filled with a fully kindled inner fire!!
