Translating Internationally

This comes from a little book, 100 Stories, put out by Kone.

"In translating instructions for adjusting a DC commutator from Finnish to Portuguese, the technical instructions gave a literal translation of the Finnish word for "clockwise" ('myotapaiva', meaning 'in the direction the sun moves').

When the instructions were put to use in Brazil, the result was a twist in the wrong direction. Why? Well, although clocks appear to turn in the same direction, the sun does not!"
