Yesterday a book from my brother arrived in the mail, The Promise, President Obama, Year One by Jonathan Alter.
I've just begun reading and yet I feel clear it is a must-read. We forget how bad it was. This book shows how even Bush and McCain were happy to hand these problems off to Obama. They didn't know what to do. They were conceding before the election.
It is easy to criticize and more difficult to recognize the complexity of the problems we face and yet, at the helm, is a brilliant, dedicated, and devoted man. I think because he recognizes the need for compromise, he is often caught looking like no one is satisfied with what he does. I look forward to the rest of the book as well as the rest of his term - terms.
