I went to the nursery to buy paper white narcissus bulbs, and saw packaged "organic" rocks. Organic rocks?
I finished reading Jim Harrison's wondrous book The Road Home. It is a meditation, a river of warmth for the brain.
I am reading Stand and Deliver, How to Become a Masterful Communicator and Public Speaker, but it is about much more than that. I recommend it too.
It is a reminder that public speaking is a huge part of our lives, and the intent is to communicate with another, but most of all, with ourselves.
I love this quote by Peggy Noonan: "A speech is poetry: cadence, rhythm, imagery, sweep! A speech reminds us that words, like children, have the power to make dance the dullest beanbag of a heart."
I'm sure that none of us have a "dull beanbag of a heart" so imagine what the poetry of speech can do for us.
Savor these autumn days. I can barely speak with such light, and yet, we must.
