The newspaper we receive in Edinburgh is The Scotsman which was founded January 25, 1817.

There is this note on the Scottish Perspective page: "The Conductors pledge themselves for impartiality, firmness and independence ... their first desire is to be honest, the second is to be useful ... the great requisites for the task are good sense, courage and industry."

That makes sense to me.
