My son and his wife are set to return from London in January after 15 wonderful months there. They've enjoyed quite an adventure, and today, he informs me they don't feel ready to return. The Bay area seems limited. Frieda was born in SF and we moved here when Chris was a baby. They want to explore.
I happened to be reading these words of Emerson when I got his email:
Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.
I don't know what they will decide, but I feel how important it is that we each go "where there is no path and leave a trail".
I can't know what's right for another, but I hope I know and follow what's right for myself.
I just started reading Mark Nepo's Seven Thousand Ways to Listen. I am entranced.
