Compassion!
Last night we enjoyed seeing Dacher Keltner speak at the Mill Valley Library.
The title of the evening was: "Compassionate Instinct: A Darwinian Tale of Survival of the Kindest."
The library was full.
Much of this we know, but research is proving it to be so. Compassion is contagious. Compassion is how we survive.
Keltner's research is on Prosocial Behavior, a term I don't recall hearing before:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prosocial_behavior
He suggested we utilize this website: http://greatergood.berkeley.edu
I noticed as we walked out that everyone moved more gently toward the door.
Also, Keltner is advising the people at Facebook on compassion. He says they really care about using their social network for the cultivation of compassion and connection.
