By the marsh

Today I was by the marsh and I didn't see a Great Blue Heron but I did see four adolescent Snowy Egrets, hanging out with their mother and a cormorant.  They were playing in the inlet where there was some water to splash in and look for fish, but mainly the young ones were playing while mom was on the hunt.   The cormorant seemed to be a shepherd of some sort.  He/she kept an eye on the youngsters when mom moved a little bit away, though they, too, kept an eye on her.  What a treat to see youngsters of any species.  They look the same, though smaller, and I must say these little guys lacked a bit of grace.  They seemed to be a bit confused on their movements, and at times reminded me of coots.
