I am reminded now of a movie I saw years ago: The Saltmen of Tibet. Here is a taste, though perhaps not one with a feminist slant. Only men go to the Salt Lake. Having trekked near this area, where life is such a challenge, and men and women work equally hard, I suspect it has to do with the value of women as child-bearers, and not anything else.

The Story of the Weeping Camel is one of my favorite movies. I see now you can watch it online. What a world, especially when this movie is one where I felt sad that the prize for a heroic child is more communication with the outside world.
