The Shadow

zebulen directed me to this post.

I think it addresses what we deal with in this country, stoicism and black and white thinking.  We are the good guys.  We can raise children single-handedly and fry bacon and all the rest.   We were told that women could do it all, and, of course they can, but it also meant two incomes would qualify to buy a home, and then, housing prices went up, up, up, and now we are where we are, where we are grateful if one person in a family can find and hold a job.  These are tough times.  Can we speak it, and use the tough times to deal with the problems, and move on?

I am a believer in positive thinking. I read Norman Vincent Peale as a child.  I was raised with a degree of Christian Science, but I also see how important it is to able to say, "I don't know."  "I'm worn out."  "I don't know what to do."  "I'm exhausted."

In my experience, children are mirrors.  They are reflectors, and yes, they are their own beings, too, but they are going to expose your shadow fasting than any rising or setting sun.

I think it is important to admit that cute as they are, and they are, that raising a child is hard work.   Building a nation is also hard work, and hard work built this country, and then, we were told we could be arrogant and stomp around and invade other countries, and all problems would be solved if we went shopping, and now, here we are.

I'm not sure I have a point, other than perhaps today each of us can let ourselves feel that we try and we hurt, and maybe we can share that with someone we love.
