alan - joshua tree bloom

What a day!   The sun is shining, and birds are twittering.  I don't think I've ever seen and heard so many birds.  The trees are full of them.  Perhaps they feel invited in by the newly emerging blossoms, and sweet scent.

Sap rises in each of us on such a day.  I keep walking outside to lift my face to the sky.  I revel in the sun, see it working in branches and trees, and feel it stirring new life in me.

A friend recommended a book for young adults, saying it is for everyone, and it is.  I recommend Boys Without Names by Kashmira Sheth.   I don't think anyone could read this book and not be dramatically changed.  Through these words, we gain an even deeper appreciation of this life we share.   Not everyone has access to birds, trees and spring.

When I spoke with a friend who is a surgeon, she said she was encased inside the operating room on Monday, and missed the rain.

Today is a day to give thanks for all those who work with healing, who work to heal individuals and who work to heal our beautiful, precious world.

I find myself with these words of Rilke, knowing there is an ebb and flow in what we share.

Rilke: "Take your practiced powers and stretch them out until they span the chasm between two contradictions… For the god wants to know himself in you."
