Bob's bird in flight

Beloved -

We saw the movie Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) last night.  It was different than the trailer which may have been the point.  I recommend it especially if you love Raymond Carver's words from Late Fragment:

Late Fragment
Raymond Carver

And did you get what
you wanted from this life, even so?
I did.
And what did you want?
To call myself beloved, to feel myself
beloved on the earth.

Two quotes -

These speak to me today.

Baseball teaches us, or has taught most of us, how to deal with failure. We learn at a very young age that failure is the norm in baseball and, precisely because we have failed, we hold in high regard those who fail less often - those who hit safely in one out of three chances and become star players.  I also find it fascinating that baseball alone in sport, considers errors to be part of the game, part of its rigorous truth.

Kobun

Hotei didn't need a zafu,
saying that his ass was sufficient.
The head's a cloud anchor
that the feet must follow.
Travel light, he said,
or don't travel at all.
