Tonight we attended the Mill Valley Library First Friday along with it seemed like about 500 other people.  It was more than a full house.  The speaker was Dale Dougherty; the topic was "Why We Make".  Dale is the CEO of Maker Media, which does the magazine Make and the Maker Faire.  He spoke about children as young as one taking things apart and inventing something new.  The idea is to get kids making things, creating from whatever's lying around.  Doug is so excited about doing this and about creating Maker Spaces for children and teenagers, to make things.  He said many of our creators and innovative people come from small towns in the Midwest.  Why?  Because if they need a part in any timely fashion, they make it.  He said we need to bring auto shop back to the schools and wood working, and teachers from our local high school were there.  It will, it is happening.  Check it out:  http://makerfaire.com and http://makezine.com
