Yesterday I walked with a friend to the beach. The water was warm, though it is not a swimming beach, just a dipping the toes in with a careful watch on tides and rogue waves. We sat on the sand and talked, truly talked, peeling layers like the taste of strawberries dipped in chocolate.
I feel so full, so aware of the preciousness of each moment. The air is rich with fragrance and the song of birds. Squirrels are busy and all is robustly, gratefully alive.
This morning I remembered the book Heidi. Those who know the book will remember Grandfather telling Heidi the sun sets with such radiance to let us know it will return. Perhaps Autumn does the same, sprinkles us with harvest gold, preparing us for darker days and then the light.
