A mess of Mush!

When I posted the poem on piling stones on the beach, I remembered a poem I wrote years ago about the sacred piles of stones I saw on the beach at Tennessee Valley.  I went on a search for the poem and didn’t find it, but I did cull some tid-bits to share.

From the wonderful book  “My Story as Told by Water” by David James Duncan.

“There is a fire in water.  There is a flame, hidden in water, that gives not heat, but life.”

Einstein’s three rules of work –

            Out of clutter, find simplicity.

            From discord, find harmony.

In the middle of difficulty lies harmony.

Carl Jung – There can be no transforming of darkness into light and of apathy into movement without emotion

I wake October 28, 2002 to these words – a haiku gift –

            Close your eyes softly

            Like butterfly wings resting

            On the snow at night.

Forgiveness is not about healing our past.  It is about healing our future.

Willa Cather – What if, what if Life’s the sweetheart?

Dec. 27, 2002  When I wake I ask because I feel it, “What is life like when it is total prayer?”
In response, I feel such movement that I am the movement of ocean.
I am absorbed in that movement everywhere.
Ocean waves rustle.   The ocean is my teacher.  I am prayer.

March 3, 2003 – I awaken to these words –
I can be with you in silence –
My ears awash in their inner seas –

Thich Nhat Hanh – When you touch one thing with deep awareness, you touch everything.

                      Low tide –  Egrets walk
in the middle of the bay,
                             Chord earth, sea, sky –

 Lessons Of Mass Destruction

“Naturally, the common people don’t want war, but after all, it is the leaders of a country who determine the policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag people along whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. This is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in every country.”

Hermann Goering at the Nurenberg trials after WWII

One day a song sat in a tree,
    Twiddle diddeley, diddeley dee,
A song made for me to sing,
     Diddle, twiddleley, diddeley dee.

St. Francis of Assisi – What you are looking for is what is looking.

Henry Miller – One’s destination is never a place, but rather a new way of looking at things.

Philip Whalen remarked that he could actually “absorb vitamins out of William Blake.”

William Blake – Sooner murder an infant in its cradle than nurse unacted desires.

Han Shan – “
Cold Mountain Poems” trans. Gary Snyder

Who can leap the world’s ties
And sit with me among the white clouds?

Buddhism - You know you are enlightened when you eat when you’re hungry, you sleep when you’re tired,  you drink when you’re thirsty, and you work when you feel like it.

Rain opens thought like pears.

Today my  white blood cells are Santa’s elves,
proliferating, and prancing, and dancing jubilantly down candy cane lanes!
