Jane and I have been working really hard on the book, and we are feeling confident about the first 1/3, so, today, we let ourselves return to the old days where we lived in free flow. Jane's poem is a dedication to the Kim family. It seems they were so well-connected and well-loved in the bay area, that many people I know had a personal connection with them. Here is Jane's poem.
Mostly I imagine the space between them.
She, huddled with their shared loves
attached to her like small animals for warmth.
He moving in an ever widening orbit
away from the snow bound car, its tires burned.
Salvation zeroing in on the weak beep of her heart.
His life ebbing into the cold.
The miracle of her rescue.
His arms outspread facing the heavens
Hope receeding.
Their love spread wide.
