I look out on gray skies and I can see. My pruning yesterday opened up the light that enters this room. I had not realized how much the plants had grown, so that I was enclosed. Now, I am thrilled to see out and about, and also, to be seen.
I am reminded of how it is when a baby is born. It seems they "know." They come in with some vast wisdom, and then, slowly they adjust to this world, and the horizons close. It is the same when someone dies. They leave the portal open for us a bit so we can see.
It was expansive to be up on the roof yesterday and see my world and the world of my neighbors from such a different perspective.
Sogyal Rinpoche says:
What we see is what our karmic vision
allows us to see, and no more.
Expand and close your horizons like butterfly wings as you breathe and palpate this day.
